Drake Staglinao is from a wealthy empire family who owns Riverside Hotel & Restaurant in downtown Chicago. He's attractive, charming, witty, and will do whatever it takes to get the one he wants, Molly Woods.
Molly, a chef intern at his five-star restaurant, shows no interest in dating Drake, or dating at all for that matter since the death of her fiancé four years earlier. After several attempts, Drake goes to extreme measures to get some alone time with Molly, knowing that he just needs a few hours for her to realize their intense chemistry is too hot to ignore. Drake finds out why Molly is reserved and guarded - but that doesn't stop him from getting who he wants.
Molly gives in and lets her guard down in order to let Drake in. However, they need to keep their relationship private, but when a surveillance video goes viral of the two of them, they must overcome obstacles that most relationships don't have to endure.
Molly needs to let go of her past in order to let Drake in... but how far can she go without cracking?
1) Molly Woods. Molly is a single mom who is trying to follow her love of cooking by attending a culinary program in Chicago. She hopes to use this experience to eventually launch her own career and provide financial stability for her daughter. It is through this experience that she meets Drake Stagliano. A man who appears determined to stop at nothing to gain her attention.
2) Drake Stagliano. Wealthy and in management at the hotel where Molly is interning/apprenticing to meet the last of her graduation requirements. He quickly and aggressively pursues Molly and, in no time, melts her resistance to his charms.
3) The conflict. Throughout this story the conflicts seem to arise from Molly being pursued by another man and Drake's jealous ex-girlfriend. One of these people inadvertently causes trouble while the other purposely creates lots of problems. I'll let you guess who is whom.
This novel is a very quick read. I wish that the story hadn't been so face paced and that we would've gotten to know the characters a little more before we were plunged into the action. It will be interesting to see where Cumberland takes this story next when she releases the sequel.
Where to begin. So I have seen that while this might not have been our favorite, there is a lot of love for Kitchen Affairs on GoodReads and such and all in all, that is really great. The best thing about reading is while it can bring a lot of people together over one subject, it really is a solitary endeavor at how it makes you feel that no other person can feel or take away from you. KA was incredibly fast paced, and that was the major turn off for me. I have never minded a really long book for the sake of having a well developed, well paced story. I never really was able to get in it and really feel emotionally attached to Molly's struggles or be attached to Drake to the point that I loved him. I second Shelley's sentiments that the end made me very intrigued to see where the sequel will take these characters.
