BLOG TOUR: JUST HUMAN BY KERRY HEAVENS

Meet Liv and Danny...

Liv loves Danny. She knows she loves him more than he loves her, so she lets him go without a fight when his parents make him move back to America. She knows she will never love anyone like she loved him, but she has to move on.

Danny loves Liv. He knows he loves her more than she loves him, because she does nothing to get him to stay, so he goes quietly when his parents leave the UK. He knows he will never love anyone like he loved her, but he has to move on.

Twelve years on, they have made a good job of pretending, they may have almost forgotten. But when they get in touch via Facebook, it seems that it is all still there.

They quickly find that they are intensely compatible in ways they hadn’t even begun to explore before they were forced apart.

Can they put aside their fears and give it a go? Or will deep rooted doubts and insecurities tear them apart?

Our Review:
Long lost childhood love stories are among my favorite tropes, and Just Human gives us that in spades. Danny and Olivia were best friends from the age of 6, that turned into something more until he had to leave England for California to go to college. Neither wanted to ask the other to make sacrifices so they parted ways, without ever any sort of resolution. Our story begins 12 years later with a facebook message...dun. dun. dun. Yes, Courtney, it was a sweet back story and such a rarity these day...to have a love from childhood that lasts until adulthood.

Danny is by far my favorite character in this book, followed closely by Max. He is protective of his heart, but still really puts himself on the line over and over again. Agreed! Danny needed a little push but then he threw himself wholeheartedly into the relationship without many reservations. I appreciated that he took a risk and saw it through. He seemed completely smitten by Olivia. It was Olivia I was a little bit put off by. She is not as put together inside as she projects to everyone outside, which causes her to be a little hardened at times....or her words don't always match her actions in my mind. Yes, Olivia was so worried about being hurt that she had a really hard time allowing herself to fully trust Danny which is funny since she seemed to measure every man that came after Danny to Danny...including Danny. I was happy to see her finally allow herself to believe that he could be trusted; it was nice to see her relax and enjoy their time together.

There are a couple of parts that have Danny's POV throughout that take us back in time to the beginning of a scene, and I would have liked for those to be more together with Olivia's scene instead of separate blocks. I mention this because it might be a problem for people who have trouble with multiple points of view anyway. On the other hand, it was good + majorly helpful to have what was going on with him that Olivia didn't know....which makes the ending so much harder.

Forewarning, there is not a resolution to the end and a second book is expected. I wouldn't call it a cliffhanger per se, because you can see what is coming from a mile away...but it doesn't make it suck any less! I definitely want to see more of their story...and I hope they get their happily-ever-after....pretty please Kerry! Yes, we need that 2nd book. I was so ticked off at the ending because I knew it was coming and I just hoped against hope that before someone made a rash decision, Olivia or Danny would take a deep breath and talk it out. Guess we'll have to wait for book 2 to see if they get that chance.
