REVIEW: ELECT ( EAGLE ELITE #2) BY RACHEL VAN DYKEN

Would you die for the one you love?
Nixon Abandonato made his choice. And now he has to pay the price. Tracey is the love of his life, but being with him has made her a target of his family's enemies. The only way to keep Trace alive is convince the world she means nothing to him.

Trace Rooks has fallen irrevocably in love with the son of her family's sworn rival, and she knows in her bones nothing can tear them apart. Until Nix suddenly pushes her away and into the arms of his best friend... But Trace isn't ready to give up on a future with Nix--and if he won't fight for them, she will.

In the end, a sacrifice must be made. A life for a life. For what better way to cover a multitude of sins than with the blood of a sinner . . .

~Our Review~

This is book 2 in the series so if you haven't read book 1, start there.

When I finished Elite and read the prologue for Elect I had lots of questions and lots of anxiety. I wanted Nixon and Tracey to finally connect and it appeared that (from the looks of the prologue) that Chase was making a play for Tracey and...just...gah. I hadn't forgotten that it might go this direction, but I too had forgotten my major anxiety I felt toward it. Because I've read Rachel's Seaside series...and omigosh can this girl write a love triangle. It hurts so good!

As with my review of the first book in this series, I will not be sharing much of anything because it would just spoil everything. Here's what I'll say, though:

1. Apparently love triangles make me really anxious. I stopped, frequently, to text Courtney to tell her how nervous I was. I knew how I wanted it to end and I think I aged a few weeks from the worry of what was going on between these characters. I was very nervous too. And surprised by all of the twists and turns this story took. I had a lot of *hand over mouth* moments, so thinking back that was exciting...even though I was a nervous wreck of who would end up with who!!

2. I definitely was satisfied with the back story of how all of these families 'work' or blend together. It wasn't too detailed but there was enough there to answer all of my questions. Never knew who was bad, who was good, or who would pull a 180 change! People I never expected to like, I did. And I was frustrated with some of the decisions my favorites made. That is the great part about Rachel's writing, and why I love this series as well...redemption comes in ways that I never expected...

3. I loved Nix. And Tex. And Mil. Tex gets the last book and that guy cracks me up so I'm betting that I'll enjoy his a bunch. Mil intrigues me and I bet she intrigues others so I'm hopeful we'll see more of her. I loved that Mil is a badass chick in this series. She is the complete opposite of Monroe, although I love her too. Then again, Monroe is someone I really want to see come into her own, because she has been told what to do by the men in her life since the day she was born.

4. The entire plot is completely unrealistic but since this is fiction, I had no problem just going with it. If you are looking for this novel to reflect real life situations you'll not find it here (other than the emotions behind the actions). It is. But it's the craziness of this world that is so intriguing. The emotions and turmoil of these young adults is so great though...but with the mafia twist...it is so memorable.

I read this entire novel on a rare snow day off. It's quick and offers an anxious (haha) but answer filled ending to the scenarios started in  Elite. I must say that I can't wait to see where we go from here. Though, I'll be sure to be nervous then too...because these stories are not gentle on my emotions until the VERY end!
