REVIEW: GONE WILD BY EVER MCCORMICK

Just before college graduation, Ina--star of her senior class--made a mistake that went viral. Then, when life seemed like it couldn’t get any worse, she walked in on her boyfriend cheating with her roommate. To get away, Ina ventures to a cabin on a remote mountain, intent on some solitary time.

She doesn’t count on Adam -- the man who watches over the cabins -- being so distractingly sexy. Adam came to the mountain to get distance from anything that could cause him pain, and Ina stirs feelings in him he thought he’d left behind.

As Adam and Ina open up about their pasts, the mountain seems like the perfect setting for a second chance at love.

Until they realize they’re not alone.

Our Review---
So when I read the synopsis and Ina's reason for wanting to take a time out from the world...my mind went to the gutter...I mean you see the word viral and your mind goes there, right?!!!!? Well, Ina reveals her reasons for taking some time off from the world soon enough so I'll leave that for you to read but let's just say, um...okay...not exactly what I was expecting. Ugh yeah. I totally thought the same thing! I automatically in this super sexed up social media world of today thought that would be the reason! WRONG! So that was interesting.

Ina arrives on Adam's mountain (he's the owner of the cabin where she's hiding out/taking a break/licking her wounds) to his gruff manner and an understandably rough 24 hours of trying to adjust to unplugging from the world. Soon enough she gets her act together and begins to adapt to the solititude..and hunky Adam (who, by the way, I completely envisioned as Adam Levine the ENTIRE TIME--try that, it works!!!).  Despite her desire to withdraw from the world, she and Adam become friendly. They share some philosophical moments, some of their fears and some of their past hurts and hopes. As they begin to discover more about each other, fun becomes necessity when some creepy things happen and they need to stay close to each other. This time together fosters a closeness and before we know it they are feeling more than friendly.

I may not have necessarily pictured Adam Levine for him during my reading...because my mind is firmly planted in the land of Colorado Mountain Men...and I just projected those feelings onto this Mountain Man. I really liked him...because he has dealt with loss in his life in his own way and is now carving his own unconventional path. I loved that he completely owned it. He felt disconnected from his life the way it was and he took his future and molded it into what he wanted for himself. That was empowering and fun and I again, really enjoyed his character. Not counting that there are some hot scenes with him chopping wood shirtless. So there is that.

Before it's all said and done, Ina's douche ex shows up, the creepy things escalate to a horrible thing, and love blossoms between Adam and Ina. Because this novel is short, the loose ends get tied up very quickly...things happen in a very short amount of time and so you have to suspend reality and just go with it or you'll find yourself muttering some disbelief about how it all ends. I think if we had 100 more pages or so to slow the ending down and add some more time to the timeline of this story I would've enjoyed the ending as much as I did the beginning. As it is, I enjoyed Ina beginning to discover more about herself, Adam being more sensitive than alpha, and some of their very honest discussions about society and relationships. True story. This was a lot shorter than I was expecting it to be. And on one hand it was nice, and flowed very well. But Shelley is correct in that things get wrapped up pretty quickly by the end...after some very frustrating times with our heroine. I was not all that happy with the way I thought her decisions were going so I have a feeling you will also be a little bit peeved about what you think she might do. She has a lot of growing and learning to do. A lot!! I am honestly on the fence about my recommendation for this one. It is an easy read, with little angst and a lot of self reflection and inspection...but some things happen too quickly for me. So maybe I just liked everything but the end? If that makes sense.
